Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term coach his previous coach.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
The player's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
He saved four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
